Casino Data Systems — OASIS™, The Industry’s First Windows/SQL Casino Management System

The Situation

Casino Data Systems set out to build something the gaming industry had never seen: a Casino Management System built on MS Windows and MS SQL Server — moving the industry away from proprietary, legacy architectures toward a modern, scalable platform. The product had to meet gaming compliance requirements across every U.S. jurisdiction before a single unit could be sold. The technical and regulatory complexity was significant.

The Engagement

Steven C. Roberts served as Product Manager for OASIS™ at Casino Data Systems from 1998 through the platform’s national deployment.

Responsibilities included: — Functional design and product specification for the full OASIS™ platform — QA testing across all system modules — Gaming compliance submission and approval across all U.S. gaming jurisdictions — each with its own technical and regulatory standards — Beta test installation — managing the first live deployments and incorporating field findings into the final product — Documentation of the complete installation process and establishment of PMO standards for ongoing deployments — Architectural planning for integration and interfaces with third-party vendor systems — Coordination of communications between technical development teams and business end-users

The Result

OASIS™ launched as the gaming industry’s first MS Windows/SQL Server-based Casino Management System — achieving compliance approval across all U.S. gaming jurisdictions and entering national deployment. Casino Data Systems was subsequently acquired by Aristocrat Technologies, one of the world’s largest gaming technology companies. The platform remains in operation today.
